Ryan James Roach Extradited to U.S. in Alleged Crypto-Mining Hack

Ryan James Roach, 35, was extradited to the United States on Oct. 28, where a federal grand jury indicted him in an alleged scheme to mine cryptocurrency using educational institutions’ computers. The indictment also names Canadian national Mathiew James Stubbings. It alleges the men targeted U.S. institutions from June 2016 through December 2019, using servers registered under false names in several countries to spread malware and mining software and store stolen login credentials. The targeted institutions were in New York, Tennessee, North Carolina and Massachusetts.
