Russia’s digital ruble had 270,000 opened accounts as of Oct. 23, less than two months after the first phase of its large-scale rollout began. The Bank of Russia plans to expand the service with a subscription option by late November and additional offerings for businesses in 2027. Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina gave the total at an Oct. 23 press conference. She said 15,000 accounts were associated with legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, without splitting that figure between the two groups. “Interest turned out to be higher than we expected at the start,” Nabiullina said.
