Russia’s 2027 P2P Crypto Ban Puts Self-Custody Under Pressure

Russia will end direct peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency trading between individuals on July 1, 2027, pushing transactions toward financial institutions supervised by the Bank of Russia. The deadline was clarified in the central bank’s updated regulatory guidance , as reported by The Moscow Times on October 15 . The change follows Federal Law No. 282-FZ, which took effect in September 2026. Rather than prohibiting cryptocurrency ownership, Moscow is creating a regulated market in which access to digital assets and the freedom to transfer them are treated differently.
