Stablecoin-based remittances cost significantly less than traditional money transfers, while on-chain payments can settle in minutes, according to a Q3 2026 report by payments network, Borderless.xyz. Sending $200 through stablecoin-funded payment rails costs a median of 1%, or $2, compared with 6.36%, or $12.72, for traditional remittances, based on Borderless.xyz pricing data and World Bank figures. The comparison indicates an 84% cost reduction, although the figures cover different reporting periods. The savings are particularly notable in Sub-Saharan Africa where stablecoin-funded remittances cost 2.9% compared with 8.46% for traditional transfers . In Latin America, the respective costs were 1.25% and 5.64%.
