Chinese stocks moved closer to bear-market territory on Thursday as a global sell-off in technology shares, weak domestic consumption and fading expectations for stronger government stimulus weighed on investor sentiment. The CSI 300 Index fell as much as 1.6%, bringing losses from its June 2026 peak to around 20%, the threshold commonly used to define a technical bear market. The decline has erased about $2.4 trillion in Chinese stock market value since the market’s peak in May 2026, according to Bloomberg data.
