On Nov. 2, Penguin Solutions introduced memory modules designed to add bandwidth to systems running AI inference, high-frequency trading and high-performance computing, expanding its hardware lineup for data center workloads. The SMART Modular DDR5 Multi-Ranked Dual In-line Memory Modules (MRDIMMs) carry a DDR5-12800 rating. Their design multiplexes two physical memory ranks into one logical rank. The approach is intended to increase bandwidth over standard registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) while avoiding traditional speed limitations. The product announcement included no measured performance comparison.
