OpenAI Pipeline Finds 948 Linux Kernel Flaws and Generates Patches

OpenAI developed an automated pipeline that confirmed 948 vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel and produced patches aimed at local privilege escalation, a class of flaws that can grant broad system access. The weaknesses involve a route from ordinary access to root, the highest level of control on a Linux machine. An attacker with local access could use this type of flaw to expand control and compromise system integrity. OpenAI did not specify which kernel versions the pipeline assessed or describe the computational methods it used. It also did not disclose what share of the generated patches Linux maintainers accepted.
