OpenAI launches GPT-Live outbound phone calls API at $0.05 per minute

Developers can now have GPT-Live voice agents dial real phone numbers through SIP providers like Telnyx and Twilio OpenAI ’s voice AI can now pick up the phone and make the call itself. On November 4, 2026, the company announced general availability of its GPT-Live outbound telephony API. Developers can now point GPT-Live voice agents at real phone numbers and have them dial out. The calls run through compatible SIP trunk providers. The core feature is outbound calling over SIP, short for Session Initiation Protocol. Think of SIP as the switchboard operator of internet-based phone calls.
