OpenAI, Anthropic Revenue Methods Make Business Comparisons Difficult

OpenAI and Anthropic use different revenue-reporting methods, making it difficult to compare their business scale from publicly discussed annualized figures alone. Anthropic counts gross sales generated through cloud partners such as Amazon. OpenAI counts only its net revenue share from partners such as Microsoft. Neither company has published standardized financial statements, limiting the ability to convert public revenue figures into directly comparable measures. Annualized revenue generally extrapolates short-term performance or the value of contracts over a full year. It is not equivalent to revenue recognized across a completed fiscal year.
