October Shutdown List Names 82 Crypto Projects

An October list identifies 82 crypto projects reported to have shut down in 2026 across decentralized finance, infrastructure and gaming, bringing business viability and security failures into focus. A separate August tally counted 100 shutdown announcements, including planned wind-downs and projects pivoting to other products. The two counts use different criteria and cannot be read as a month-to-month change in completed closures. In the August group, projects had raised about $1 billion and collected $250 million in lifetime fees. Nine had each raised more than $50 million. Large fundraising totals did not ensure survival.
