Norwegian Banks Warn of ‘Gold-Drop’ Scam Hiding Bullion in Forests

Norway’s financial industry organization, Finans Norge, warned on October 22, 2026, about a scam that tricks people into buying physical gold and leaving it in public places for criminals to collect. Known as the “gold-drop” scam, the scheme has spread across major Norwegian cities, including Oslo, Drammen, Lillestrøm, and Bergen. Criminals convince victims to withdraw their savings and buy physical gold bullion, presenting it as an investment that can protect their money against market volatility. Victims are then instructed to leave the gold in forests or parks for someone else to collect and supposedly store safely while its value increases.
