Northeast Asian LNG Gauge Tops $30 Amid Middle East Shipping Risks

A Northeast Asian LNG tracking contract reached $30.01 per million British thermal units on Oct. 19, as Middle East shipping risks drew attention to energy costs. The reading was 0.28% higher than the previous day and 15.47% above its level a month earlier. It tracks the LNG market through a financial contract and is not a price assessment for a physical cargo. An LNG tanker off Yemen came under fire from a small boat carrying seven people on Oct. 17 at 6:30 a.m. ET (10:30 a.m. UTC). After the tanker's security team fired two warning shots, the boat changed course.
