Netanyahu Floats Blockchain as a Sanctions Workaround; Israel’s Central Bank Objects

A day before Israelis vote, the prime minister’s call for a sanctions-proof economy that leans partly on blockchain has drawn objections from the Bank of Israel, more than 100 economists and his election rivals. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a Channel 10 interview on Friday, Oct. 23, that Israel has to get ready for possible sanctions, including on its banks, by building an economy able to work around them. Asked whether blockchain is the alternative, he said it is one option and that he has already asked for a plan.
