The Nasdaq 100 lost more than $2 trillion in market value in October as investors questioned heavy artificial intelligence (AI) spending’s payoff, while financing risks also drew attention. During October, investors shifted from AI shares toward safe-haven bonds. On Oct. 22, the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell nearly 20 basis points, or 0.20 percentage point, its steepest one-day decline since early 2023. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) listed a possible AI-related market correction and a sharp rise in sovereign bond yields as separate risks in its Oct. 12 Global Financial Stability Report.
