Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned that unfinished data centers could leave computing capacity unused, as Gartner separately forecast that more than 80% of neocloud providers would stop operating independently by 2030. Musk posted on X at 9:32 p.m. ET Saturday, Oct. 24 (01:32 UTC Sunday, Oct. 25): “I think we’re going to see a lot of stranded compute in partially complete data centers.” The post made no reference to neoclouds, provider debt or consolidation. Musk did not identify a project or estimate how much capacity could be affected. Neoclouds are specialist providers of computing capacity for artificial intelligence workloads.
