TLDR MSCI approved new rules that could exclude Strategy and Metaplanet from its global equity indexes. The provider will announce affected companies on November 11, with changes effective after November 30. Companies must fail an initial operating asset screen and at least four additional financial tests. JPMorgan previously estimated that Strategy could face approximately $2.8 billion in index-related stock outflows. Strategy disputes the proposed classification and maintains that its Bitcoin treasury qualifies as an operating business. MSCI has adopted new rules that could remove Strategy (MSTR) and Japan’s Metaplanet from major global stock indexes.
