Microsoft said it is expanding its Sovereign Cloud offering with new controls, previews and general-availability updates aimed at customers in government, critical infrastructure and regulated industries. The company said the latest changes are designed to give organizations more control over where workloads run, who can access them and how they remain operational as regulatory or network conditions change. In a blog post published on 2026-10-20, Douglas Phillips, who leads global engineering for Microsoft’s specialized, sovereign and private clouds, said the company is extending Sovereign Cloud across public cloud, customer-operated environments and partner ecosystems.
