Meta has been hit with the largest penalty in its history after a jury found the company misled users about how their data was protected. New Mexico District Court Judge Francis J. Matthew ordered Meta on October 21st to pay $25 billion in civil penalties under the state’s Unfair Practices Act, says the New Mexico Department of Justice. The order follows a September jury verdict finding that Facebook violated the law 43,899,725 times in connection with the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
