The hardware wallet maker says tampered units secretly transmitted private keys over a mobile network. Ledger has detailed a security incident involving devices sold by a vendor identified as CryptoBilis, which allegedly contained covert components capable of transmitting cryptocurrency wallet keys over a mobile network. According to the company's findings, the implanted chip used LTE connectivity, meaning it could send data even without a user connecting the device to a computer or Wi-Fi network. Hardware wallets are designed to keep private keys isolated from internet-connected devices, reducing the risk of remote theft.
