Countries and regions with close ties to the United States bought $174.3 billion net in Treasurys from January through August 2026, down more than 60% from the same period a year earlier. Japan’s net purchases totaled $389 million from January through August, while South Korea recorded $23.8 billion in net sales. The two Asian countries had opposite positions over the period. Weaker local currencies, higher domestic yields and uncertainty over U.S. policy were factors behind the decline. Enna Lee reports on investing and digital-asset markets for TokenPost.
