Intel announced Oct. 27 that it plans to acquire Classiq, an Israel-based quantum computing startup. The deal would combine Classiq’s quantum algorithm software platform with Intel’s silicon-based qubit hardware as the chipmaker pursues a quantum business spanning both layers. Classiq’s platform focuses on software for quantum algorithms, while Intel brings hardware based on silicon qubits. Pairing the two would add a software component to Intel’s quantum effort and put an algorithm platform alongside its hardware capabilities. Intel’s stated goal is to build a full-stack quantum-computing business, with software and hardware in the same operation.
