IMF Warns Global Economy Has Less Room to Absorb Energy Shocks

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned Oct. 14 that the global economy has less capacity to absorb shocks as conflict-driven energy pressures drain fiscal and energy buffers. The IMF’s October outlook projected global growth of 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027, with inflation at 4.7% in 2026. Higher energy and commodity prices tied to the war were weighing on economic activity, partly offset by demand linked to artificial intelligence. A limited fire broke out at a Saudi Aramco administrative building in Dhahran on Oct. 13 after the site was targeted. No one was injured or killed.
