How much Bitcoin does it take to rank among the richest 1% of holders? The answer depends on what you measure. Three different numbers circulate online, and each one answers a different question. Using current address data, the top 1% of funded Bitcoin addresses starts at about 2.9 BTC. A popular claim says 0.28 BTC is enough, but that figure comes from a population calculation, not from holder data. Updated for 2026, the population figure is closer to 0.25 BTC. A funded address is a Bitcoin address with a balance above zero. BitInfoCharts counts almost 60 million of them.
