General Motors plans to close its Brownstown Battery Assembly Plant in Michigan as the site's lease nears expiration, moving its assembly work and employees to other company facilities. The closure does not mark a change in GM's electric-vehicle strategy. Brownstown has assembled battery packs for the electric Cadillac Celestiq, as well as battery packs and electric drive units for the hybrid Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. GM is also developing new battery cells at its Warren, Michigan, battery campus .
