A former FBI counterintelligence agent, Patrick Steven Yaroch, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering after stealing nearly $2.5 million in cryptocurrency from wallets linked to adversarial nations and entities under federal investigation. Prosecutors from the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia reported that Yaroch, 37, abused his privileged investigative positions to access FBI systems and initiate unauthorized cryptocurrency transfers. Investigators established that Yaroch carried out nearly 100 fraudulent transactions across 35 separate FBI cases, allowing him to amass $2,474,380.66 in illicit proceeds.
