Ethereum Post-Quantum Transition Targets 2028 – A Hope

“Assuming everything is going to plan, I want to see Ethereum have finished the post-quantum and post-AI transitions by the end of 2028,” says Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake at Devcon 8 in Mumbai, outlining the Ethereum Post-Quantum Transition. This is one year before the Foundation’s current roadmap lays out a Dec. 2029 deadline for quantum resistance in the execution, consensus, and data layers. To hit it, the Ethereum Post-Quantum Transition will require the network to undergo three more upgrades within 24 months. The statement reconceptualizes the quantum risk as an imminent engineering project, unlike a potential existential event.
