Elliptic, a cryptoasset security and intelligence firm, says $6.43 billion in cryptoassets was stolen from Binance. The firm believes North Korea-linked actors were involved, an allegation that puts exchange security at the center of the claim. Elliptic also said $2.84 billion, or 44% of the stolen assets, had been frozen. That figure describes the portion Elliptic says is frozen; $6.43 billion is its total claimed theft. The two amounts therefore describe separate measures of the same incident, not two losses. Elliptic made the claim Oct. 29.
