Democrats have taken control of both chambers of Congress, but their seat totals fall short of the two-thirds majorities needed to override President Donald Trump’s vetoes. Democrats led Republicans 54–44 in the Senate, with at least seven states flipped. In the House, Democrats led 253-155. Those totals fall short of the two-thirds majorities needed in both chambers to override a veto, leaving Democrats unable to enact legislation over Trump’s objection without additional votes. U.S. stocks and Bitcoin (BTC) sold off Thursday, Nov. 5. The S&P 500 fell 4.36% to 7,353.73, its steepest daily decline since April 2025.
