Dell says a single 3U PowerEdge server can replace up to 13 five-year-old systems, a consolidation claim tied to its 18th-generation portfolio and its cooling designs. The company also reports performance gains of up to 70% from one generation to the next, based on its initial testing. Dell has not specified the workloads, configurations or testing methods behind the figures, so they do not establish a universal benchmark. Central processing units (CPUs) remain part of the infrastructure mix as companies build for AI inference and agentic AI, which can carry out tasks across multiple steps.
