China is seeking to seize 61,896 Bitcoin worth billions of dollars linked to a fundraising fraud that caused losses of nearly 20 billion yuan for investors. A court in Tianjin has accepted prosecutors’ request to confiscate the Bitcoin and other assets linked to Qian Zhimin, who allegedly ran the scheme through Lantian Gree. The case could affect how much money victims recover and who gets the profits from Bitcoin’s rise in value. On October 13, the Tianjin Second Intermediate People’s Court accepted a request filed by prosecutors on September 28 to seize the assets linked to Qian.
