Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy's office announced Sunday that he was hospitalized after a stroke Saturday, as the sitting senator campaigned for Democrats ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections. Murphy began experiencing numbness in his arm Saturday afternoon while at his son's hockey game and was taken to a local hospital, Chief of Staff Allison Herwitt said. Doctors found he had suffered a stroke. He was then transferred to Johns Hopkins for monitoring and is responding well to treatment, Herwitt said. Herwitt said Murphy was awake and alert and that his doctors were encouraged by his progress.
