The United States became a net importer of Bitcoin in 2026 for the first time since 2022, according to a study by Chainalysis. The analysis, which covered the year ending June 2026, pointed to a growing divide between institutional inflows and retail investor activity as the main force behind this shift. Chainalysis noted that transactions above $10 million brought a net inflow of 53,200 BTC, valued at approximately $4.3 billion, into the country. In contrast, transfers under $10,000 consistently showed net outflows during each measured period, indicating that retail investors were moving Bitcoin out while institutions were bringing more in.
