In a significant downturn for the cryptocurrency market, crypto derivatives venues reported $1.26 billion in liquidations over a 24-hour period as Bitcoin ’s price dropped by approximately 5.9%, according to CoinGlass data. This sharp decline saw Bitcoin falling to around $75,600, its lowest in seven weeks. The liquidations were heavily skewed towards long positions, which accounted for 88.6% of the total, suggesting that leveraged optimistic positions were abruptly closed during the price drop. The event coincided with a broader sell-off in U.S. technology equities, which may have amplified the downward pressure on Bitcoin.
