A Binance customer linked to an Iranian financial network faced scrutiny from U.S. and Swiss law-enforcement officials after transactions with an Iranian money changer and repeated account access from Tehran. Binance classified the customer as a “high-value customer,” a designation that provided lower fees and personalized service. Senior approval was required before the account could be removed. Binance said it blocked the relevant accounts in late 2025 and removed the final account in May 2026. The customer was linked to a cryptocurrency firm operated by Iranian financier Babak Zanjani, whom the Treasury Department designated under U.S. sanctions authorities.
