Big Tech resists funding US power grid upgrades amid data center expansion

Major technology companies, including Amazon , Google , Meta , and Microsoft , are resisting efforts to have them fully fund upgrades to the aging U.S. power grid, which are necessary to support their expanding data centers. This pushback comes amidst ongoing discussions with utilities and state regulators about cost allocation. While the companies are willing to pay for infrastructure directly supporting their facilities, they oppose covering shared transmission and distribution costs.
