BANKING | The Largest Private Bank in Brazil Becomes First Bank to Formalize Crypto Brokerage

Itaú Unibanco, Brazil’s largest private bank, has notified the central bank of its cryptocurrency trading and custody operations becoming the first bank to formalize its crypto brokerage under the country’s new regulatory framework, according to local Brazilian media . The move comes ahead of an October 30 2026 deadline for existing crypto businesses to comply with the rules. Under the framework, banks already authorized by the central bank can notify the regulator of their crypto services while dedicated virtual-asset service providers must apply for operating authorization.
