Bank of England consults on digital collateral use by central counterparties

The Bank of England has launched a public consultation focused on the use of digital representations of eligible collateral by central counterparties (CCPs). The move comes as the financial sector seeks greater clarity on how existing regulatory standards apply to tokenized assets within clearing processes. According to the draft supervisory statement published by the central bank, existing UK rules already permit CCPs to accept digital versions of eligible collateral, provided these assets fulfill clearing standards. The consultation aims to clarify the process for CCPs seeking approval to use such collateral under the current framework.
