AssemblyAI has introduced Universal-3 Pro, a promptable speech language model designed to adapt transcription behavior from plain-language instructions before audio is processed, according to the company’s launch announcement published on 28 Oct. 2026. The release matters because it shifts part of the transcription workflow from downstream correction to source-level control, with AssemblyAI positioning the model for customer calls, medical documentation, notetaking and other voice-heavy use cases. In the launch material, AssemblyAI said Universal-3 Pro is the first production-quality speech model in its lineup to change behavior based on prompts.
