Anthropic ’s recent IPO filing has revealed that shareholders might have the ability to remove the Long-Term Benefit Trust’s power over the company’s board. This development raises questions regarding the company’s commitment to maintaining independent AI safety oversight. The filing indicates that certain shareholder majorities, along with the board and trustees, can amend or redeem the Class T stock that currently enables the Trust to elect and remove a majority of the board members. This revelation comes as Anthropic, the developer of the Claude family of AI models, moves forward with its proposed listing on Nasdaq.
