The American Bankers Association has warned that a proposed Office of the Comptroller of the Currency rule on stablecoins could drive deposit outflows from banks, raising a direct challenge to the OCC’s push to define stablecoin activity within the federal banking framework, as the association signals that the rule’s current structure may create incentives for customers to shift funds away from insured deposit accounts. The American Bankers Association, which represents commercial banks and savings institutions across the United States, has formally flagged concern that an OCC stablecoin rule could accelerate deposit outflows, according to the association’s warning.
